Stony Brook University Community Music Programs

Beginning September 2009

This yearlong residency will feature lecture/demonstrations, workshops, and coachings for music students in the SB area, and recitals by the BPQ at the Staller Center for the Arts and in the community. Through workshops and coachings, the BPQ will enrich and advance the chamber music experience of the young music students enrolled in the Pre-College Music Program. The quartet will also present lecture-demonstrations aimed at introducing chamber music to string students in the orchestra programs of local public schools.

Biola University

This residency consisted of two masterclasses, a performance on Biola’s Music at Noon series and an evening recital on the Concert Series.


Azusa Pacific University
Azusa, CA
February 23-24, 2009
During this residency, the BPQ coached student ensembles in a chamber music masterclass, taught private instrumental lessons, and performed a recital. In addition, the BPQ gave lecture/demonstrations and participated in discussions in the Orchestration and 19th & 20th Century Music History classes, and the Performance Seminar for all music majors, engaging in topics ranging from the string quartet and its repertoire to the business of music.


Cornell University
Ithaca, NY
February 21-25, 2007
Invited as soloists to perform the Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and String Orchestra, Op. 47 by Edward Elgar with the Cornell Chamber Orchestra, the BPQ worked with the ensemble’s students in rehearsals and gave private instrumental instruction. In addition to performing the Elgar, the BPQ performed side- by-side with students in Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.
